Partnership / Sponsorship of Durban Beach Festival and Bridge City Fan Park
WELL DONE ETHEKWINI!
MAKING EVERY GAME SWEETER FOR FANS WILL HAVE LONG-TERM POSITIVE IMPACT
The buzz of excitement throughout eThekwini has been incredible, with locals and visitors alike basking in warm welcomes and an exciting line-up of entertainment!
“I’m so happy to be a Durbanite,” said one brightly painted Bafana Bafana supporter at the Durban beachfront, “We’re really showing the world what we can do!”
Tongaat Hulett is also extremely proud to be part of these events, having partnered with the eThekwini Municipality as a sponsor of the Durban Beach Festival and Bridge City public viewing area. The integrated agri-processing business, which includes Huletts Sugar, South Africa’s most popular sugar brand, as well as Starch operations and land developments, has collaborated with the municipality on a number of successful projects in the past.
“We’re a proud player and supporter of Southern Africa, KZN, and eThekwini in particular,” said Michael Deighton of Tongaat Hulett. “There’s no doubt that eThekwini will benefit from the overwhelming positive response it has received, both nationally and internationally, and Tongaat Hulett looks forward to many more successful partnerships in the future. Upgrades to the beachfront and various other facilities add enormous value to our city and will benefit the entire region.”
The first official Tongaat Hulett-eThekwini partnership was introduced in 2001 with the Effingham Development Joint Venture, a public-private partnership that has created the flourishing Riverhorse Valley Business Estate. The joint venture has also undertaken the development of the Bridge City precinct, which hosted a popular public viewing area on its site.
“Bridge City is a groundbreaking new city centre that literally bridges Inanda, Ntuzuma, Phoenix and KwaMashu, and there was no question that we wanted to be involved in its role as a public viewing area,” explained Deighton. Visitors will have seen a great deal of activity and progress, including the brand new 40 000 square metre Bridge City shopping centre and various municipal and private facilities. The development is set to provide access to transport and amenities for over 800 000 people.
Huletts Sugar is well-established on the Durban beachfront, as a sponsor of the Durban Surf Lifesaving Club, making this a logical next step for Tongaat Hulett’s involvement. The flags lining the North Pier brightened up the Beach Festival considerably.
“Tongaat Hulett would like to congratulate eThekwini Municipality, as well as all the residents and visitors who have been part of these outstanding achievements,” concluded Deighton. “Let’s keep it up and make every day in eThekwini even sweeter.”
